Arundhati er en Telugu-språklig skrekk-fantasy film. En modig dronning kjemper en kamp mot en ond mystiker. Tre generasjoner seinere kommer mystikeren tilbake for å hjemsøke dronningens etterkommere. Filmen vises med tamilsk dubbing.

Som et ledd i å fullføre den prosess-baserte installasjonen Verdens ende vil Ilavenil Vasuky Jayapalan presentere det siste tillegget av kunstneriske arbeider til lyd- og videoinstallasjonen.

Ilavenil Vasuky Jayapalan (f. 1991) er en transdisiplinær kunstner basert i Oslo, Norge. Jayapalans kunstnerskap trekker inspirasjon fra film, musikk og media. Kunstverkene kretser seg ofte rundt og i mellom mekanismene til nasjonale bevisstheter, forestillinger om frihet, sannhet og lyst til spekulative fremtider sett fra samfunnets utkanter.

Film screening of Arundhati from 2009 at The End of the World.

Arundhati is a Telugu-language horror fantasy film. A brave queen battles an evil mystic. Three generations later, the mystic comes back to haunt the queen's descendants. The movie is shown with Tamil dubbing.

As part of the finalisation of the process based installation The End of the World the artist Ilavenil Vasuky Jayapalan will present the latest addition of art works in the sound and video installation.

Ilavenil Vasuky Jayapalan (b. 1991) is a transdisciplinary artist based in Oslo, Norway. Jayapalans works are highly inspired by the world of cinema, music and media. Often evolving around and in between the mechanisms of national consciousness, the notion of freedom, truth and desire to speculative futures that depart from the contemporary fringes of society.

Gjennom utstillingsperioden viser vi tamilske filmer ukentlig i lyd- og videoinstallasjonen Verdens ende på Kurant. Filmene vil bli vist uten undertekster, og filmopplevelsen gjenspeiler den erfaringen mange har hatt med tamilsk film gjennom en oppvekst i diasporaen. Om man ikke behersker språket, må man lese filmene på en annen måte, tolke dem gjennom det reint audiovisuelle.

Throughout the exhibition period we will screen Tamil movies in the sound and video installation The End of the World at Kurant. The movies will be shown without subtitles, and as such the viewing experience will reflect the experience of watching Tamil-language films growing up in the diaspora. If one doesn’t have the language, films must be read and understood differently, through an immersion in audiovisual storytelling techniques.
