SASUSU Radio åpner utstillingen på Kurant9000 med live radioprogram Verdens ende #1 med billedkunstnerne og SASUSU Radio vertene Sanjey Sureshkumar og Henrik Sørlid.

I dette radioprogrammet vil Sørlid og Sureshkumar gi en introduksjon til Verdens ende, og den kommende filmen til Sureshkumar, Lille Eelam på verdens ende som er utgangspunktet for utstillingen. 

Som en del av åpningen vil காவடி holde en performance av lydlanskapet til filmen Lille Eelam på verdens ende.

காவடி (uttales Kavadi) utforsker lydlandskapet fra den tamilske diasporaen gjennom å skildre personlige og kollektive minner. காவடி er et dravidisk ritual for krigsguden Lord Murugan der de hengivne bærer på en fysisk byrde som en kroppslig transaksjon, ofte for en de elsker eller for å balansere sin spirituelle gjeld. Med feltopptak fra Eelam (nordlige delen av Sri Lanka) i samspill med lydelementer tradisjonelt tatt i bruk i templer og i spirituell tilbedelse, utforsker காவடி fortellinger om tro, forflytning, flukt og kamp.

Henrik Sørlid (1989) er en kunstner og skribent bosatt i Tromsø. Han har vært involvert i flere kunstnerdrevne visningsrom og kollektiver, inkludert Kurant Visningsrom, Galleri Parthenon, ComoClube og Pantheon Bar & Grill. I sin egen praksis jobber han ofte med temaer knytta til historie og historieforståelse, og historieskriving som politisk praksis. Sammen med Camilla Fagerli har han redigert Dream Academy, en antologi om kunstutdanningspolitikk i Nord-Norge, som utgis på Archive Books (Berlin) i 2023.

SASUSU Radio opens the exhibition at Kurant9000 with the live radio show The End of the World #1 with the artists and SASUSU Radio hosts Sanjey Sureshkumar and Henrik Sørlid.
In this radio show Sørlid and Sureshkumar gives an introduction to the The End of the World, and Sureshkumar’s upcoming film Little Eelam at the End of the World, which forms the basis for the exhibition.

As part of the opening காவடி will be performing the soundscape of the film Little Eelam at the End of the World.

காவடி (pronounced Kavadi) explores the soundscapes of the Tamil diaspora by depicting personal and collective memories. காவடி is a Dravidian ritual for Lord Murugan, the God of War, where the devotees carry, on their body, a physical burden which emphasizes debt bondage, usually for the benefit of loved ones or for balancing one’s own spiritual debt. With field recordings from Eelam (northern parts of Sri Lanka) alongside various sound elements traditionally used in temples and spiritual worship, காவடி explores stories about faith, displacement, escape and battle.

Henrik Sørlid (1989) is an artist, critic and writer living in Tromsø. He has been involved in several artist-run exhibition spaces and collectives, including Kurant Visningsrom, Galleri Parthenon, ComoClube and Pantheon Bar & Grill. In his own practice, he often works with themes linked to history and historical interpretation, and to the writing of history as a political practice. Together with Camilla Fagerli, he has edited Dream Academy, an anthology on art education politics in Northern Norway, which will be published by Archive Books (Berlin) in 2023.

DJ Tarab fra København surfer de soniske bølger fra det arabiske til det arktiske, der hun flyter gjennom lydlandskapet innenfor flere sjangre som hiphop og eksperimentell elektronisk musikk, som ofte tar utgangspunkt i lyder fra Sørvest-Asia og Nord-Afrika. Tarab på arabisk oversettes til en transe- og ekstaselignende tilstand som fremkaller den emosjonelle kraften som musikk har.

Hailing from Copenhagen, Dj Tarab surfs the sonic waves from Arabia to the Arctic, flowing through the soundscapes of hiphop and experimental electronic music, often infused with sounds from Southwest Asia & North Africa. Tarab in Arabic translates to the trance-like state of ecstasy induced by the emotional effect of music.
